Simon Wilday

From age 12 I attended Moseley Art School and gained a 5 years display artist apprenticeship at age 15, joining a family firm, Clements Bros, for a wage of £1 a week.  During this time, I worked with other inhouse trades to meet deadlines. Following the completion of my apprenticeship I got married and moved to a new house in Stourport on Severn, purchased a new Mini 7 car and ventured into family life.

During my 50 years at Clements, I created both visual and 3D model designs for various exhibitions around the world including Europe, USSR, Australia and USA.  This resulted in work for museums, including the V&A, visitor centres, the NEC Birmingham and vehicle design for the motor/transport industry. Computer aided design was introduced, initially for budget reasons, to produce personal design packages for clients.  Over time this grew, resulting in being commissioned to design for G8 and NATO at Birmingham.

Whilst I was working fulltime, I set up Wildays Wizzard Workshop, with my son.  Providing help and designs for local club custom cars shows, including advertising, programmes and promotional material, whilst building own VW Beach Buggies. At 65 I was forced into retirement, which led to working freelance.  I later moved to live with my daughter’s family, in Cornwall, and continued to produce various forms of artwork. I recently moved to Droitwich, where I continue to look forward to creative challenges.
