ART EXHIBITION IN DROITWICH LIBRARY IN OCTOBER 2026
A few weeks ago members of Droitwich Arts Network were asked if they are likely to exhibit and roughly how many pictures. This was to establish the level of interest, the financial viability and whether there will be enough pictures to look attractive in the room. A good number of members indicated their interest, possibly exhibiting a total of about 80 pictures. There is space for many more. Based on this level of interest we have booked and paid for the Gallery Room, upstairs in the library.
ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible to exhibit you must be a paid-up individual member of Droitwich Arts Network, or a member of a Group that has current paid-up Group membership.
REGISTRATION AND FEES
Quite soon you will be invited to register your contact details and information about your pictures. You will be able to add pictures, or change your registration up to early September. The actual cut off date will be notified later. You will be able to set a price for each picture or state NFS (not for sale).
Registering your pictures will allow the assembly of a catalogue that will be printed and shown on the website. It also allows us to decide how to group pictures in the exhibition. Every picture will be numbered to simplify enquiries and sales.
The fee is £3 per picture, payable in advance. You will be notified when payment is due.
OPTIONAL THEME
The optional theme is D…… Droitwich.
The first word must begin with the letter D and must be a single word adjective. Examples are Dazzling, Dramatic, Dirty, Desirable, Dynamic, Dreadful, Daring, Drunken. Or find your own D word.
Your work must illustrate your D word. Whether it is a drawing, painting, photograph, or some other creative piece, this is an opportunity for you to show how your chosen theme inspired you.
It is absolutely fine if you do not wish to engage with the theme.
THE EXHIBITION ROOM
We have paid a fee for the exhibition space but please remember that other groups may book the room for meetings during October. This means that members and visitors will not be able to view the exhibition during those times. We can tell when the room is booked by accessing the room booking system.
ADVERTISING
We will utilise a number of ways to inform the public and encourage people to view the exhibition:
- Emails to members
- Promotions on social media
- Leaflets in local shops, pubs, cafés, and the library.
- Possibly an article in the Droitwich Standard
- A large colourful banner in the town centre (assuming permission obtained).
The gallery space will usually be open during the libraries normal opening hours, however, on occasion access to the gallery may be restricted to the general public to accommodate other events. All publicity should contain the following statement “Normal opening hours apply unless another event is being held in the Gallery space. Please telephone prior to making a specific journey”.
EXHIBITING
All pictures must be able to hang on the wall either by using string attached to the back, by using mirror plate, or by large pins at the edges of mountboard.
Pictures (often photos) can be displayed on mountboard and placed on the existing wall boards using large flathead drawing pins.
Pictures can be exhibited by firmly attaching string at the back and hung on a picture hook.
Please note that the exhibition is not supervised. For additional security picture frames should be fitted with mirror plates.
Pictures must not be removed during the exhibition before the Take Down day. Sale prices must not be altered during the exhibition.
All pictures are displayed at the risk of the artist. Neither Droitwich Arts Network nor Worcestershire County can accept responsibility for damage or theft of items. If your artwork is very valuable you could consider including it in an “all risks” insurance policy.
SETUP AND TAKE DOWN
The exhibition will be set up on Saturday 3rd of October. Please deliver your pictures before 12 noon.
The exhibition will be taken down on Saturday 31st of October. Please collect your pictures after 12 noon.
Volunteers will be needed to receive, register, and help exhibit pictures; and to help take down, and record pictures collected. Sold pictures will be held for collection by the purchasers.
DISCLOURE AND EXCLUSIONS
When registering pictures exhibitors must disclose the use of any of the following:
- The inclusion of material that is not of their own making
- Painting by Numbers
- Computer generated outlines
Pictures that are totally generated by Artificial Intelligence (AI) may not be exhibited.
The Droitwich Arts Network Exhibition Organiser and The Library Manager reserve the right to reject any item thought to be unsuitable for exhibition. Arbitration of this issue shall be provided by the Head of Culture & Community at Worcestershire County Council whose decision is final.
Each artist is responsible for ensuring that all work to be displayed complies with UK legislation. Please pay particular attention to ensuring that copyright laws are not infringed.
SALES
Large colourful signage will inform potential buyers to check the online catalogue to ensure that the picture is still available. An email address, and possibly a telephone number, will also be shown for buyers to make enquiries and to complete a purchase.
Commission of 10% will be retained by Droitwich Arts Network. Artists will be informed of sales and the progress of payment.
Sold pictures must not be removed from the exhibition until the Take Down day.
We consider this method of handling sales to be better than the alternative offered by the library that would result in a commission fee of 25%+VAT (a total of 30%). Also the library does not have a card machine making it less convenient for buyers.
