Love of painting and animals

Our theme for February is Love, and Stephen Evans has sent in this image with these words:

“I have always had a ‘LOVE’ for painting wild animals, particularly the big cats, lions, tigers and leopards who, along side other species, are in serious danger of becoming extinct. I try to capture the seriousness of their situation in my paintings and I have selected this image from a solo exhibition, held several years ago, at a gallery near Hereford titled ‘It’s Our World Too’. I feel the this painting is particularly poignant and demonstrates this ongoing situation.”

This Orangutan mother is cradling her baby with security and ‘Love’.
Will our children and grandchildren only know of these animals through paintings and photographs?

Painted with soft pastels on A3 pastel paper.
